Michael F. Keane Obituary – Reverend Michael F. Keane died on Easter Sunday, surrounded by his loved family. We are very sad to say this. Simon F. Keane and Sadie (Ginnelly) Keane’s son. On April 12, 1961, he was born in the Bronx, New York. His name became Father Mike after being called on May 12, 1990. His religious training began with the Franciscan Friars at Holyoke, MA’s St. Hyacinth College & Seminary. Michael was later promoted to archdiocesan priest and sent to St. Joseph’s Seminary and College in Yonkers, NY.
Michael was sent to begin his ministry to the Regina Coeli church in Hyde Park, New York. He moved to high school teaching at St. Joseph by the Sea in Staten Island, NY, and Our Lady of Lourdes in Poughkeepsie, NY, after his three-year assignment was over. He really enjoyed working with young people and would often tell them stories from his own childhood to help them see that being “cool” isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be. Mike was taken to Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, from here. After working at Holy Name of Mary for a while, Michael was moved to St. Anastasia’s, where he stayed until he died.
Michael was exceptionally skilled in many areas. He was a great athomilist, and he was also great at playing the drums and the bagpipes. He was very proud of his Scottish and Irish lineage. He was also a Knight of Columbus #2079 member in Monroe and was recently appointed as a Chaplain. Former Faithful Friar and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus #2640, Monroe. An active member of the Haverstraw Elks Lodge No. 877 and the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) in Monroe, NY.
He gave his all to his parishioners, who were like family to him, wherever he went. There were many friendships that lasted a lifetime that he treasured. Amazingly dedicated to his faith and community, he will be remembered as a source of hope and inspiration to everyone who met him.
Brother Simon “Frank” of Downingtown, PA; sister Joanne Radie of West Chester, PA; nieces Sarah (Garrett) Majam, Melissa, Lauren (Dan) Mercer, Anna, and Grace; nephew Anthony; great-nephew Duke; his maternal aunt Margaret McAlpine (Uncle George); many cousins in England, Scotland, and Ireland; and the many childhood friends and parishioners he faithfully served.
On Sunday, April 7, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., mourners can visit at St. Anastasia Parish Church, 110 Rt. 17M, Harriman, NY. Following the funeral, there will be a Parish Memorial Mass at St. Anastasia Parish Church on April 7, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. St. Anastasia Parish Church, 110 Rt 17M, Harriman, NY, will hold a funeral mass on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 11 a.m. Priest Keane will be buried next to his mother in the family plot at Pennsylvania’s St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
