Mia Elle Faison,Ricardo Acosta Obituary, Death; – El Paso police have released the identities of the two passengers who lost their lives in a collision involving a car and a pickup truck that overturned on Gateway North Boulevard in the Northeast last week, according to a police spokesperson.
Mia Elle Faison, 20, from the East Side, and Ricardo Acosta, 22, from the Northeast, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 3, in the 8300 block of Gateway North Boulevard near Hercules Avenue, as reported by police spokesperson Stephanie Shields on Monday, April 7.
The Special Traffic Investigations (STI) unit’s inquiry revealed that both a Toyota and a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 were traveling at high speeds northbound on Gateway North when, for reasons yet to be determined, both vehicles lost control. The truck struck the curb, veered off the road, and rolled over.
As the truck lost control, the Toyota swerved to the right, hit the curb, and continued northward until it collided with an electrical pole on Gateway North at Edgar Park Avenue, subsequently rolling and crashing into a large tree. It was noted that the occupants of the Toyota were not wearing seat belts.
The driver of the truck, Cristian Nava, 24, and his passenger, Damian Nava, 19, both from Chaparral, New Mexico, were taken to an El Paso hospital with injuries that have not been disclosed.
This year, El Paso has recorded 19 traffic-related fatalities, compared to 14 at the same point in 2024, according to statistics from the Police Department. The investigation by the police Special Traffic Investigations Unit is ongoing, focusing on the crash that occurred around 2:20 a.m., which may have involved factors such as speed and alcohol. No charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
Faison was seated in the front passenger position, while Acosta was in the back of a 2006 Toyota Avalon driven by 18-year-old Daisy Marie Saenz from Central El Paso, as stated in a police news release. Saenz was also transported to an El Paso hospital.
