Meralea Cook Obituary – Meralea Cook, 40, of Lake Road, Trout Run, was identified as the victim of the single-vehicle crash on Sugar Camp Road in Gamble Township on Monday afternoon, according to Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. Cook succumbed to blunt force trauma injuries at the scene after her SUV veered off the road, careened down an embankment, and collided with three trees, as per state police reports. The collision caused the vehicle to be destroyed, spinning around and facing south.
The crash was not witnessed by anyone, but was discovered and reported by a passerby around 3:15 p.m., Kiessling confirmed. Authorities suspect that Cook was heading home, a mere two miles away from the accident site.
In relation to the incident on Route 220 in Muncy Township on Saturday afternoon, Kiessling determined that William Messersmith, 87, of Montoursville, suffered a fatal heart attack while driving, leading to his pickup truck veering off the road and hitting a tree. Kiessling concluded that Messersmith’s death was due to natural causes.
