CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Medic has reached an agreement to temporarily extend its contract with the Charlotte Fire Department.
The Mecklenburg County ambulance service announced Tuesday that it’s extending the agreement for six months through a memorandum of understanding. The two agencies had until Jan. 9 to reach a deal.
“This will provide the time necessary to redefine the role that CFD plays as a first responder in the EMS system along with any downstream impact on Medic and service delivery,” Medic officials said in a statement. “Our focus is and will continue to be doing what is the best interest of the community we collectively serve here in Mecklenburg County.”
The previous deal gave Medic the ability to dispatch fire crews to low-priority calls or have them respond to a call and provide care until a Medic ambulance can arrive. However, Charlotte FD officials say their crews are responding to an unsustainable number of calls.
