MATTHEWS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A long-standing Matthews tradition is getting a refresh.
The Town of Matthews annual festival, formerly known as BeachFest, is now Matthews Summerfest, town officials announced Wednesday. The 17th edition will take place May 9-10 at Stumptown Park.
With its new name, Summerfest will have something for everyone. Families can enjoy carnival rides, interactive games, shopping, lunch or dinner at street food vendors, commercial exhibits, and great music on the main stage. Social media contests will be held in April and May on the Parks & Recreation Facebook page for a chance to win Summerfest merchandise.
The event is free to attend.
New in 2025: Summerfest will host several different genres of music on the main stage. Scheduled to perform during the two-day event are The Catalinas (beach), Spiderwebs (No Doubt tribute), The Next Level Band (Motown/Top 40), Smokey Jones & The Three Dollar Pistols (classic country), Blackwater (beach/blues/funk), and Captain Mike & the Shipwrecked (Jimmy Buffett tribute).
Seaboard, Southern Range, and Edge City breweries are returning in 2025, offering craft beer for purchase for festival-goers 21 years and older.
