Matthew Sellars Obituary, – A man from Maryville passed away on the Fourth of July following a fireworks mishap in Greenback, as reported by the Blount County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called to Evergreen Farms Lane in Greenback around 10 p.m. in response to a report of an unconscious individual.
Upon arrival, they found three people administering CPR to a man. The deputies took over but were unable to save the victim, identified as 35-year-old Matthew Sellars, who was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. According to BCSO, one of the witnesses stated that they were handling fireworks with Sellars and another person by hand. The witness recounted that a firework exploded, causing a large chest wound to Sellars. The witness observed Sellars falling to the ground with a significant amount of bleeding.
The incident report described a large hole in Sellars’ chest and a cut on his right hand. Sellars was transported to Blount Memorial Hospital by AMR and was pronounced deceased at 2230 hours. BCSO referred to the incident as “sad and unfortunate.”
