Matthew ‘Matt’ Ross Brown, 37, of Shavertown, Pennsylvania, longtime member of The Blue Cross Blue Shield, has sadly and unexpectedly passed away at his family home early on Monday morning, August 07, 2023, leaving family, friends and other loved ones in total devastation and sadness.
The beloved son of Dr. Fredric and Lisa Brown, Matthew spent the last decade making a life for himself in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area where he had a career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota – a job he loved as Matt always wanted to help others.
Dog dad to his malshi, Samson, he was a passionate, stylish, insightful and straightforward person who loved his family and friends truly with all he had. He was proud to represent his company in many community outreach events spearheading an art gallery featuring local Minnesotan artists. Matthew attended United Hebrew Institute, Wyoming Seminary Upper School and completed a bachelor’s degree in the first class of entrepreneurship from Wilkes University. He was active in each school, maintaining decades of friendship regardless of where life would take him.
Matthew, in addition to his parents, is survived by his sister, Sara and her husband, Mark; brother, Steven; grandparents, Leon and Phyllis Greenwald; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Samuel and Mildred Brown; and great-grandmother, Hannah Berk “Gigi.”
Although Matthew struggled with addiction, Matt was a testament of strength providing a strong shoulder and a helping hand for anyone lucky enough to be in his life. His journey serves as a reminder that compassion, understanding and support are essential for those facing similar challenges. His family is proud of the years of sobriety Matthew achieved and even more grateful for the time it gave them with him.
Funeral services were held earlier this week. Shiva will be observed from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday by the family at the Friedman JCC, 613 S. J. Strauss Lane, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alina Lodge, Blairstown, N.J., an addiction treatment center, to Keshet, a Jewish outreach organization or a charity of your choice.
Matthew’s memory will endure among all of those who he touched during his short, yet meaningful life. He was open, honest and a man of true integrity who impacted others, both personally and professionally. Matthew never needed his generosity to be acknowledged and would openly share his experience with anyone needing a little encouragement or help. Matthew was a friend to everyone and will always be remembered for his love of nice cars and fabulous shoes. Our hearts are broken and we will miss him dearly.
