Matthew Ahern Obituary, Death;- A 40-year-old man who lost his life after being struck by a Metra train on the Union Pacific North line last week has been named.
Matthew Ahern, a resident of Grayslake, has been identified by Stephen Newton, deputy coroner for the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy findings indicate that Ahern succumbed to blunt force injuries.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Thursday at milepost 34.75, situated between the Waukegan and North Chicago Metra stations, close to Oakwood Cemetery, as reported by Meg Thomas-Reile, a spokesperson for Metra, to Patch last week.
Train services in both directions were suspended in the vicinity of the accident, but the tracks were fully operational again within three hours, according to Thomas-Reile.
