Mathew Decker Obituary, Death; – A man from Eugene lost his life on Thursday in a head-on crash involving a semitruck near Florence. Oregon State Police arrived at the location on Highway 126 around 2:23 a.m. on Thursday.
Initial investigations revealed that a white Freightliner semitruck traveling west and a white Ford van heading east collided head-on near Milepost 6 for reasons that remain unclear, as stated by OSP.
The van’s driver, 37-year-old Mathew Decker from Eugene, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semitruck, 64-year-old Joseph Botelho, sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for about five hours while the investigation was conducted.
