The 20-year-old Mason Scott Sells of Fayetteville, Georgia, gave his friends and family joy and vibrancy. Scott and Rachael Sells welcomed him into the world on September 29, 2003, at Henry Medical Center. On Monday, September 23, 2024, at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, while playing soccer with friends, he was struck in the chest by a soccer ball, causing his huge, magnificent heart to stop.
Mason had a sharp mind and enjoyed a good joke. He was regarded as a buddy of the utmost integrity who was also dependable, devoted, and loving. From attending to concerts with friends to cliff-jumping at the lake, he enjoyed life immensely.
Mason used to love the great outdoors, wildlife, and daring activities like capturing snakes and scorpions. He had no dread in him by nature.
He had great expectations because he was Abigail’s older brother. Whether or not she asked for it, he would always support her and offer guidance. As they grew older, they gave each other heartfelt farewell hugs. They disagreed as vehemently as they loved each other.
Mason was a kind man and a reliable source to his parents. You could rely on him. Mason was liked and respected by Scott and Rachael in addition to being loved. All his parents wanted was for him to be here. He was actually his dad’s best buddy and “boi.” Mason was fortunate enough to be seen by Scott and Rachael for the whole weekend, but only one day before he passed away.
Mason played soccer and was a member of the shotgun team at Trinity Christian School in Sharpsburg, Georgia, where he graduated with honors. Mason was a soccer referee for a long time, even before he graduated from high school. He even participated in an indoor men’s league with his father. Mason’s father described him as “wicked smart.”
Mason was a junior accounting major on the President’s List at Mercer University. He also played soccer for the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Mason was described by his fraternity president as someone who “just kind of came naturally to school.” He was such a selfless guy, and he had the time to invest in and focus on the connections with others around him. He would never prioritize others over himself.
Mason’s spirituality was one of the key facets of his life. He even discussed his prayers with his parents the weekend before he died away. His family finds comfort in the fact that he was with Jesus the next instant and playing soccer, one of his favorite pastimes, the moment before.
Mason is lovingly remembered by his ATO fraternity brothers, his Trinity friends, his parents, Scott and Rachael Sells; sister, Abigail; grandparents, Gail Slaton, Linda Sells, Jim Sells, and Lisa Sells; and his true love, Laura Grace Groover.
Mason Scott Sells’ Celebration of Life Service will take place on Saturday, September 28 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Christian School, 8817 Highway 54, Sharpsburg, GA 30277.
