Marty Higgins Death: Mr. Marty Ray Higgins, age 55, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024. He was born on October 19, 1968, in Guilford County to the late Richard Conway and Rachel Buchanan Higgins. Marty pursued a successful career as an engineer with Technimark in Asheboro, demonstrating his dedication and skill in his profession.
Passionate Hobbies and Interests
Beyond his career, Marty was an avid hunter and bass fisherman, hobbies that brought him immense joy and relaxation. He also had a passion for restoring automobiles and motorcycles, showcasing his love for mechanics and craftsmanship. His dedication to these hobbies was a testament to his enthusiasm for life and his ability to find joy in his interests.
Devoted Family Man
Marty’s greatest love was his family. He cherished his wife, Dawn Kellar Higgins, who was the love of his life. Their bond was a source of strength and happiness for both of them. He is also survived by his sister, Sherri Higgins Puckett (Derrick) of Little River, SC; his brother, Melvin Higgins of Winston-Salem; and his extended family, including Uncle Walter Higgins, niece Staci Hill, nephews Kyle Higgins, Nicholas Higgins, and Tyler Vestrat, father and mother-in-law Fred and Cathy Kellar, and sister-in-law Melissa Miller (Alex). His canine companions, Myra and Rex, and feline companion, Maci, were also dear to him.
Tragic Accident and Loss
Marty’s life was tragically cut short in a motorcycle accident in Winston-Salem, NC. On Monday, just after 4 p.m., troopers responded to a deadly crash in Davidson County on Gumtree Road at NC 109. A Chevrolet truck, driven by Tiffany-Marie Sorrell, turned left onto NC 109 in front of Marty’s motorcycle, causing a fatal collision. A Ford Taurus was also involved in the crash. Sadly, Marty died from his injuries at the scene. The drivers of the Chevrolet and Ford were not injured. Sorrell was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to yield. Troopers stated that impairment does not appear to be a factor in the accident.
Memorial Services
A graveside service for Marty will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Charlie Martin officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30-2:30 PM at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home, 10301 N. NC Hwy 109, Winston-Salem. This service will be an opportunity for family and friends to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend.
