Mark Young Obituary, Death – On March 23, 2024, Mark A. Young, aged 64, of Natick, Massachusetts, formerly of Virginia Beach, Virginia, died peacefully of multiple myeloma following an eleven-year battle. His final days were spent in the company of his wife, Laurie, and two sons, Alex and Matt. Mark, who was insatiably inquisitive, was particularly interested in establishing connections with everyone he encountered. Mark had an uncommon ability to impart profound impressions on individuals he encountered, be it in the workplace, while running errands at the local market, or while at the bank. Constantly, he would advise his sons on the significance of “paying attention to life.
” By setting a good example, he managed to retain the most minute particulars regarding the individuals in his life. Being considerate of others, he established himself as an exemplary spouse, father, friend, and neighbor. Mark attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he excelled athletically and served as Treasurer of the Saint Anthony Hall Fraternity and a member of the men’s heavy weight crew team. He earned his MBA from the New York University Stern School of Business in Manhattan, subsequent to his tenure at Penn. Mark worked at a number of institutions during his prosperous career as a banker, including State Street Bank, Citizens Bank, and Manufacturers Hanover Trust in New York City.
Grist Mill Advisors was his own advisory firm, which he established in 2007, following decades of cultivating solid relationships in the publishing industry. Mark, a devout individual, was an active participant of the Pilgrim Church located in Sherborn, MA. He functioned as the treasurer and a member of the memorial endowment committee for the church council. Mark delighted in carrying on childhood customs by planning church-wide family weekend retreats and potluck banquets on the Cape. He desired for his children to have the same formative experiences that were so formative for him himself.
Mark, who was a voracious reader, delighted in devoting his leisure time to the pursuit of an exceptional historical biography. In addition, spending time by the pool with his wife and closest friend, Laurie, and attending sporting events with his sons brought him immense pleasure. Mark exhibited a profoundly stoic attitude towards his illness. He was an exemplary patient who learned everything there was to know about his condition, multiple myeloma. Pharmaceutical companies appointed him to expert patient panels and extended invitations him to present at conferences organized by those companies regarding his personal experiences with this illness. With the desire to ease the journeys of others diagnosed with multiple myeloma, he assumed the role of a mentor and imparted his personal experiences.
Mark has several survivors to remember him. Among them are his sister Rebecca Stack and her husband Raymond Stack of Montpelier, Virginia, his father Ron Young of Richmond, Virginia, his aunt Connie Young of West Chester, PA, his uncle Ron Walters of East Patchogue, NY, his niece Sarah Stack of Richmond, Virginia, his nephew Christopher Stack of Charlottesville, Virginia and his wife Kayla, and numerous cousins. Mark was married to Laurie (Elgas) of Natick, Massachusetts. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend his wake on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the John Everett Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick. On Sunday, April 7th, at 1:00 PM, his funeral will be conducted at Pilgrim Church, located at 25 S. Main Street, Sherborn.
