Mark Edward Fleetwood Obituary, – Starlett Tabares, a 24-year-old woman, was taken into custody by the Daytona Beach police for her involvement in a DUI-related crash in January that resulted in the death of a pedestrian from out of state who was visiting for the Rolex 24 event.
Tabares is facing charges of vehicular homicide and DUI causing death in connection with the incident that occurred on January 27 at the intersection of Seabreeze Boulevard and North Oleander Avenue. The victim, identified as Mark Edward Fleetwood, 58, from Michigan, was fatally struck by Tabares’ 2020 Kia Rio while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk at around 3:05 a.m. He was pronounced dead by Volusia County EMS at 3:11 a.m.
Despite evidence suggesting that Tabares may have had a green light at the time of the crash, and Fleetwood’s postmortem toxicology report indicating a high blood-alcohol content level, Tabares reportedly refused to undergo a blood test initially. However, a blood test conducted later revealed that her alcohol level was significantly above the legal limit in Florida.
Further investigation revealed that Tabares’ vehicle was speeding at 57 mph in a 30 mph zone just before the collision, and she did not apply the brakes before the impact occurred. Tabares was taken into custody on June 15 and posted bail of $50,000 the following day. Her arraignment is scheduled for July 16.
