Margaux Whittemore Obituary, Death; – A woman from Belfast has been confirmed as the victim of a violent incident that occurred on February 19 on Giles Road in Readfield, as stated in a press release from the Maine State Police.
Reports regarding the incident were received on Wednesday, February 19, at approximately 10:02 a.m., prompting a response from members of the Maine State Police and the Winthrop Police Department to the location on Giles Road.
Upon their arrival, troopers discovered a deceased woman outside the residence. She has been identified as Margaux Whittemore, 32, from Belfast.
Inside the residence, the homeowner, Dorothy Whittemore, 67, was found injured and subsequently transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for medical treatment. Although her condition was initially reported as critical, it has since improved, according to the release.
The alleged assailant, Samuel Whittemore, 43, also from Belfast, reportedly fled the scene before the troopers arrived but was apprehended a short distance away.
Samuel Whittemore was taken to Maine General Hospital in Augusta for evaluation and has since been moved to Kennebec County Jail, where he faces a murder charge.
Margaux and Samuel Whittemore were married and lived in Belfast. At the time of the incident, they were visiting Samuel’s parents’ home in Readfield. His father was reportedly outside the home during the incident but returned shortly thereafter.
The deceased was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy was conducted on the morning of February 20.
The manner of death has been classified as homicide, although the specific cause of death has not been disclosed at this time. Samuel Whittemore is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on February 21.
