Marcus Epps,Leon Parker Obituary, Death; – Two individuals who lost their lives on Wednesday afternoon have been identified following a mass shooting in South Memphis, which also resulted in injuries to three others, according to police reports. The Memphis Police Department confirmed that the deceased were 27-year-old Marcus Epps and 30-year-old Leon Parker.
Authorities indicated that three additional individuals sustained life-threatening injuries, while two succumbed to their wounds after a gunfight occurred at a residence located mere feet from LeMoyne-Owen College. Questions linger regarding who initiated the gunfire and whether any individuals would face legal repercussions.
The crime scene on College Park Drive was cordoned off for several hours, with police vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks, and crime scene units arriving and departing throughout the afternoon. The leadership of the Memphis Police Department, including Chief C.J. Davis, was present at the location.
“There was some type of disturbance inside the residence that led to an exchange of gunfire,” stated Lt. Louis Brownlee, a spokesperson for the MPD.
Investigators noted that the violent incident transpired within a house situated close to a daycare and tutoring center, just a short distance from the college campus.
“Officers located five shooting victims on the scene,” Brownlee reported. One individual was pronounced dead at the scene, while another died at Regional One Hospital. Three others were in critical condition. Authorities confirmed that all individuals involved in the shooting have been accounted for.
“Current indications suggest that the incident was confined to the interior of the residence,” Brownlee added. There has been no information from the MPD regarding the specific cause of the shooting, nor is it clear if any survivors might face charges. LeMoyne-Owen College issued a statement shortly after the incident, clarifying that it occurred off-campus and did not involve any members of the college community:
“LeMoyne-Owen College remains fully operational following reports of an off-campus incident near 948 College Park Drive. The incident did not involve or impact LeMoyne-Owen College students, faculty, or staff, and there are no lockdowns or alerts in place at this time.” “The safety and well-being of our campus community is always a priority.”
