Marcia Pochette, Jenice Woods Obituary, Death News – The West Palm Beach police have commenced an Internal Affairs investigation regarding the circumstances surrounding a tragic accident that resulted in the deaths of a woman and her mother in Boynton Beach on Tuesday evening. Marcia Pochette and her daughter, Jenice Woods, both lost their lives in the incident.
The accident occurred in Boynton Beach at approximately 8 p.m. Woods and her mother were en route to obtain dinner when their vehicle was struck by a driver traveling at high speed on Congress Avenue. Both Woods and Pochette succumbed to their injuries.
According to the Boynton Beach police, 23-year-old Neoni Copeland was the driver of the vehicle that collided with them and subsequently fled the scene. He was apprehended shortly thereafter and charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Currently, he has not been charged in relation to the fatalities of Woods and Pochette, although further charges may be forthcoming as the investigation progresses, as stated by the police.
In a statement released earlier today by the Boynton Beach Police Department, it was noted that “Information was received indicating that Copeland had evaded the West Palm Beach Police Department shortly before the accident.”
Sources informed WPBF that the pursuit continued until the moment of the crash, with three units from the West Palm Beach police—one marked and two unmarked—following Copeland for several miles, well beyond the city limits of West Palm Beach, activating their lights as they navigated through intersections. A witness reported seeing a police vehicle at the crash site; however, Boynton Beach police utilized vehicle tracking technology known as AVLs and confirmed that none of their units were in pursuit of Copeland.
When WPBF inquired with the spokesperson for the Boynton Beach police regarding whether West Palm Beach police had pursued Copeland to the crash site, she replied, “We possess video evidence from Congress Avenue and Lantana Road indicating that there was an active pursuit. However, this occurred approximately two and a half miles from the site of the crash.”
