IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man with a violent criminal history cut off his ankle monitor after shooting another person in the stomach, according to authorities.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Thursday, Jan. 16, deputies responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Wiggins Road and Mount Ulla Highway.
As deputies arrived at the scene, they found a person who had been shot in the lower abdomen. The suspect, later identified as John Dexter Wines, 33, had driven away.
The victim was transported to the hospital and after an interview deputies discovered the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute. The two knew each other, they said.
Wines had reportedly followed the victim’s vehicle, blocked it at an intersection, and during the confrontation, shot the victim in the stomach before fleeing toward Rowan County.
Investigators discovered Wines was wearing a court-ordered ankle monitor due to prior domestic violence charges but he had cut it off while fleeing.
Warrants have been issued for his arrest.
