The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate is dead after he and another man were found unconscious in their cell on Saturday.
Deputies discovered the men around 11:15 p.m. in their cell at the Bexar County Jail. The Sheriff’s Office says life-saving measures were performed on the two men and Narcan was given as well.
Juan Moreno-Hernandez, 36, was later pronounced dead by facility medical staff.
BCSO tells us the man appeared to have ingested something before having the medical episode. The source of any possible substance remains under investigation.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner will have to determine the cause of death.
The other 50-year-old inmate regained consciousness after being given the Narcan and was taken to University Hospital.
BCSO says, “the Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office is handling the death investigation in accordance with the Sandra Bland Act, while the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit is handling a concurrent administrative investigation.”
Officials at the Bexar County Jail have notified the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
This is a developing story.
