Circumstances of the crash: Troopers reported that the CSX train, consisting of 106 cars and transporting freight, was traveling southbound. The train operators noticed headlights from a vehicle, later identified as a Honda CRV SUV, and sounded the horn.
Authorities indicated that the vehicle was immobilized on the tracks. The estimated speed of the train at the time of the incident was approximately 40 mph, as stated by law enforcement officials.
Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that two additional individuals—a 59-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman—were also present in the SUV. With the vehicle unable to move, it was reported that the man and woman left to seek assistance while Foley remained inside.
When the train struck the SUV, Foley was positioned on the driver’s side, according to officials. The impact propelled the vehicle roughly half a mile from the collision point, while Foley was thrown approximately a quarter of a mile. Troopers noted that video footage and evidence from the scene indicated that the SUV’s doors were open.
