Luke Chafin Arrested; – The Charleston Police Department has reported that a 19-year-old man is facing several charges related to an assault that occurred on Sunday night.
Luke Chafin, a resident of Hanahan, is charged with high and aggravated assault and battery, two counts of third-degree assault and battery, possession of a fraudulent identification, and being a minor in possession of alcohol, according to police.
The incident took place around 8:15 p.m. on Sunday when a group of teenagers spat on an individual near the intersection of King Street and Calhoun Street. When the victim confronted the group about their behavior towards his girlfriend, he was subsequently punched and kicked by multiple assailants, as detailed in a police release.
Chafin was apprehended following a brief pursuit, although investigators believe that two additional individuals were also involved in the incident. Police have released surveillance images of these individuals in an effort to identify them.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. As of Monday afternoon, Chafin was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center, with jail records indicating that a judge has set his bond at a total of $42,663.00.
