GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A suspect is in the hospital after a police chase spanning two counties, Lowell Police Chief Carl Moore confirms.
Chief Moore says the chase started on Wilkinson Boulevard near Lowell and Cramerton. The suspect being chased was driving a stolen car, may have been involved in an armed robbery and was believed to have been armed. He was also wanted for assault on a female.
The chase ended with the stolen vehicle crashing on Wilkinson Boulevard near Field Ridge Drive and Interstate 485. This is in Mecklenburg County, but just outside of Charlotte city limits.
It is unclear at what time the chase began, but the crash was first reported around 2:45 a.m. on Thursday.
Officials say the suspect was injured in the crash and taken to a hospital in Charlotte. He will be charged when he is released. No officers were involved in the crash, but one police car had to be towed due to a mechanical issue.
