Louis Luke Golden Obituary, Death; – The Tucson Police Department provided details regarding a fatal accident involving a bicyclist near 1st Avenue and Grant Road on June 4.
The Tucson Police Department and the Tucson Fire Department were dispatched to the 800 block of E. Grant Road following reports of a collision between a blue 2004 Ford F-350 and an adult male bicyclist. The bicyclist, identified as 73-year-old Louis Luke Golden, was taken to Banner University Medical Center with critical injuries.
According to the investigation, the driver of the Ford F-350 was moving westbound on E. Grant Road in the curb lane and attempted to switch lanes into the right-turn-only lane when the collision occurred with Golden, who was cycling in the westbound bicycle lane.
Law enforcement mentioned that the driver of the vehicle stopped immediately and fully cooperated with the inquiry. An officer from the Impaired Driver Enforcement Unit assessed the driver and confirmed that there was no impairment due to alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident.
The driver of the vehicle explained that the glare from the sun setting made it difficult to see Golden on the road. On June 7, the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner informed the Tucson Police Department that Golden had succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The family has been informed. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges or citations have been issued at this time.
