Lorenzo Thompson Obituary – A pedestrian was fatally injured in the early hours of Sunday after being hit by a vehicle on K-Ville Avenue in Auburndale, as reported by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Charna Gilbert was driving her 2001 blue Lincoln Nautilus east on K-Ville Avenue close to Old Dixie Highway around 1:40 a.m. when her vehicle collided with an object of dark color on the road, according to a news release from PCSO. Gilbert stopped immediately and contacted 911 upon being unable to locate what her car had hit.
Upon the arrival of emergency responders, they discovered the body of a man dressed in dark clothing who seemed to have been walking on the south side of the road, the release stated. The man had suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the notification of his family, PCSO identified the deceased as Lorenzo Thompson, 64, from Auburndale. Gilbert was assessed and showed no signs of impairment, as per PCSO. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
