Lisa Stavish Obituary, Death; – A 41-year-old woman incarcerated for murder in Monroe County passed away on Sunday shortly after being discovered unresponsive in her cell, as reported by the state Department of Corrections on Monday.
Lisa Stavish was declared dead at 6:07 a.m. at the state Correctional Institute in Muncy, a facility designated for medium to maximum security for women located in Lycoming County.
The circumstances surrounding her death have not been revealed. An investigation is being conducted by the state police and the county coroner’s office, in accordance with state policy.
Stavish was serving a sentence of 7 to 20 years, which was imposed in 2015 for the murder of David McEntire in 2005 at a residence in Scotrun, Monroe County.
Initially reported missing, McEntire, 42, was later found to have been murdered. In 2010, an informant disclosed that a group had attacked McEntire, killed him, incinerated his remains, and disposed of them at a junkyard near Hazleton. Prosecutors indicated that Stavish was one of four individuals charged in connection with McEntire’s death, alongside Anthony Caiby, Edwin Kelly, and James Gaines.
Authorities stated that the men accused McEntire and Stavish of theft following a night of drinking. Prosecutors noted that Stavish was assaulted, while McEntire was thrown down a flight of stairs and shot in the legs.
The group ultimately resolved to kill McEntire, mixing cocaine with bleach. Stavish administered the lethal combination to him twice, resulting in his death. Subsequently, they incinerated his body and discarded it at a junkyard.
Stavish was apprehended for her involvement in the crime in 2013, as per court documents. She entered a guilty plea to third-degree murder as an accomplice on June 1, 2015, and received her sentence on the same day.
During the 2016 trial, Stavish served as one of approximately two dozen prosecution witnesses, which led to Caiby, 49, being convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. Kelly, 60, also provided testimony during the trial, while Gaines, 39, was not identified until 2015 and was subsequently returned to Pennsylvania after the trial concluded.
Similar to Stavish, both Kelly and Gaines pleaded guilty to homicide charges and received sentences of 7 to 20 years in prison.
