This incident marked the second fire of the night for the Mt. Vernon Fire Department. A passerby noticed smoke emanating from the Tyrone Bristoe residence in the 1200 block of South 16th Street. After approaching the door and finding it unoccupied, they later reported that a dog and two cats were safely removed from the premises.
Firefighters indicated that the blaze originated at the rear of the structure, which suffered significant damage. A swift response prevented the fire from spreading further, although the rest of the home experienced extensive smoke damage.
Mutual aid was provided by Jefferson Fire and Litton’s Ambulance, while Kell and Woodlawn stood by at the Mt. Vernon station in case of another fire. The alarm for this incident was received at 5:55 PM on Monday, with firefighters remaining on-site for approximately 90 minutes.
The causes of both fires are currently under investigation, with the State Fire Marshal collaborating with Mt. Vernon Fire investigators regarding the fatal incident.
