Leroy Abrahams Obituary, Death; – West Palm Beach authorities have confirmed the identity of the individual who lost his life in a hit-and-run incident on Saturday night. They are now appealing to the public for assistance in locating the driver responsible for the fatality.
According to police reports, Leroy Abrahams, a 65-year-old resident of West Palm Beach, was attempting to cross Broadway near 32nd Street shortly after 7:30 p.m. when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. A woman who witnessed the aftermath discovered Abrahams on the ground and promptly dialed 911.
“He’s on the sidewalk,” she informed the dispatcher. “It appears he may have been hit by a vehicle. There’s debris and clothing scattered on the ground.”
“When officers arrived, they found the man unresponsive,” stated Mike Jachles, the public information officer for the West Palm Beach police. “They initiated CPR in an effort to revive him. Regrettably, he was declared dead at the scene by paramedics from the West Palm Beach Fire Department.” Investigators revealed that the driver who collided with Abrahams did not stop to render aid.
Evidence suggests that the vehicle involved was a black, four-door sedan that sustained significant damage. “A section of the right front bumper will be missing from that vehicle,” Jachles noted. “Additionally, the windshield has also been compromised.”
Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen a vehicle matching that description or who possesses information regarding the incident to reach out to Detective David Streitgold at 561-822-1608 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS (8477).
Ideally, the driver would take the initiative to make that call. “Do the right thing and come forward,” Jachles urged. “This could be someone’s father, grandfather, or brother. It is important to act with humanity and share your perspective. We are eager to hear your account of the events.”
