Leon Faine Obituary, Death; – An 83-year-old man from Talladega County has become the third confirmed fatality resulting from severe weather that impacted Alabama on Saturday night.
Coroner Shaddix Murphy has identified the deceased as Harry Leon Faine. Faine was located in his mobile home on Bob White Road, situated approximately half a mile from Winterboro High School, across Highway 21.
“He was inside his mobile home when it appeared that a tornado passed directly over his property,” Murphy stated. “His home was destroyed, and he was discovered about 200 feet away from the residence.”
Murphy reported that the storm struck around 9:30 p.m., with Faine’s body being found at approximately 11 p.m. He noted that he was not aware of any additional injuries, but there was a distinct path of destruction in the vicinity where Faine lost his life.
“You can clearly see the trail where it crossed Highway 21,” Murphy remarked. “Fortunately, there were not many homes in that area where it crossed the highway.” In addition, two other individuals lost their lives in the Dallas County community of Plantersville.
One man died in his workshop while he and his wife were taking shelter from the storm; his wife emerged unscathed. A woman who had been reported missing was discovered deceased around 4 a.m., following extensive search efforts that included the use of drones.
The weather service in Birmingham, which had to seek shelter from a tornado-warned storm that threatened its own office in Calera, announced that it would deploy three survey teams today to evaluate the damage.
