Lathaniel Burrell Obituary, Death; – A 16-year-old boy who was fatally shot in south London has been identified by authorities. Lathaniel Burrell lost his life near a primary school on Paradise Road in Stockwell at approximately 3:20 PM on Tuesday.
Detectives investigating the murder are appealing to the public for assistance in locating the suspects, who are believed to have escaped the scene on a moped. A family member expressed to Metro: “He was a wonderful person. He had one sister and was a devoted Manchester United fan.
“We are heartbroken; he was such a kind boy.” A cousin, who chose to remain anonymous while paying respects with flowers, honored Lathaniel by stating: “He was exceptionally intelligent and had the potential to attend university. His passion for football was evident.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy. My mother has spoken with his mother, who is utterly devastated and in shock.” One local resident recounted being at home when she overheard children arguing, followed by the sound of three gunshots.
She recounted to The Mirror: “I was on a Zoom call, wondering why the children were shouting. They were running after each other. I heard one say, ‘you better stop,’ and another responded, ‘f*** off, no.’ Then I heard three loud bangs.”
Paramedics arrived at the scene to provide assistance to Lathaniel, but he was pronounced dead at the location. Florence Eshalomi, Labour MP for Vauxhall and Camberwell Green, characterized his death as a “life wasted” and expressed her sorrow regarding the tragic incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee remarked: “This is a dreadful crime that has deeply affected the local community and beyond. Our condolences go out to Lathaniel’s family and friends during this heartbreaking time. “Our investigation is progressing rapidly, as we analyze CCTV footage and gather witness accounts.
“We have increased police presence in the area for reassurance and are engaging with local schools. “We also require the public’s assistance—if you were in the vicinity, please reflect on yesterday afternoon and share any information, no matter how minor it may seem. “We are especially interested in any mobile phone or dash cam footage from the area.”
