Lance Corporal Albert A Aguilera,Lance Corporal Marcelino M Gamino Obituary, Death;- Military authorities have confirmed the identities of two Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton in Southern California who tragically lost their lives in a convoy accident in New Mexico on Tuesday.
The deceased Marines have been named as Lance Corporal Albert A. Aguilera, 22, and Lance Corporal Marcelino M. Gamino, 28, as stated in a news release from Captain Charles Kimbrough of the 1st Marine Division. Aguilera, hailing from Riverside, California, served as a combat engineer with the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division. He enlisted in March 2023 and achieved the rank of lance corporal in May 2024, according to the announcement.
Gamino, from Fresno, California, also served as a combat engineer with the same battalion. He enlisted in May 2022 and was promoted to lance corporal in August 2024. His commendations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
The accident took place near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Both Marines were transported to University Medical Hospital in El Paso, Texas, where they subsequently passed away.
“The loss of Lance Corporal Aguilera and Lance Corporal Gamino is profoundly felt by all of us,” stated U.S. Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel Tyrone A. Barrion, commanding officer of the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion and Task Force Sapper. “I extend my deepest condolences and prayers to the families of our fallen brothers. Our primary focus at this moment is to ensure that their families and the Marines affected by this tragedy receive comprehensive support during this challenging time.”
Additionally, military officials have reported that another Marine from the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion is in critical condition.
All three Marines were deployed to the southern border as part of President Donald Trump’s initiative to combat illegal immigration. An investigation into the crash is currently underway.
