LANCASTER, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — State investigators continue to look into a deadly officer-involved shooting in Lancaster County. Jacob Tyler Sobieraj, 24, died in a shootout with police Sunday along Mosteller Drive in Lancaster. Deputies said he had called 911 and reported he had shot and killed a woman and child.
In reality, deputies later said the woman and child were shot, though the child, a 6-year-old, died of their injuries Monday. The child’s name has not been released, and the woman remains in the hospital as of Tuesday.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, or SLED, said Tuesday that Sobieraj did not have a past arrest history in the state.
Queen City News returned to the area of Mosteller Drive where the incident happened and made contact with family members connected with the home that was the site of the shooting. Family did not wish to make a statement at this time.
