Kye Schaefer Obituary – Kye Schaefer, a 22-year-old man from New South Wales, tragically lost his life after surfing at a location known as Parkie on Thursday morning. After exiting the water, Schaefer was attacked and stabbed multiple times in the parking lot near the beach.
Despite still wearing his wetsuit, he was discovered and emergency services were immediately called to the scene. Shockingly, it has been reported that his mother, who worked at the hospital where he was taken, also succumbed to her injuries upon arrival.
Schaefer, who was an active member of the Woolgoolga Soccer Club and had a committed relationship with his girlfriend, was highly regarded by members of the community. They described him as an incredibly gentle, soft-spoken, polite, and well-mannered individual.
Local authorities have confirmed that the assailant responsible for the attack is still at large. Currently, no description of the suspect has been released, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Chief Inspector Guy Flaherty addressed the media at the scene, stating that certain items of interest were discovered in a nearby camp around the jetty area. While it remains uncertain if these items are connected to the crime, the area has been designated as a crime scene.
Schaefer’s uncle, who spoke to local media about the incident, expressed his grief and anger towards the attacker. He also called for stricter laws in Australia to combat knife violence, specifically mentioning Jack’s Law, a legislation in Queensland that permits the use of portable metal detectors by police in public places to detect concealed weapons.
He urged the New South Wales government to adopt a similar law, emphasizing the importance of saving lives and questioning why action has not been taken yet. “It is our sons and daughters who are at risk,” he added. “I hope that all the listeners and the public will join us in demanding change.
