Keith Berger Obituary Illinois, Backwater Gamblers Water Ski Team Member Has Died: It is with an absolutely heavy heart that we announce the loss of our dear teamm ate, Keith Berger. Keith was a cherished member of the Backwater Gamblers for what feels like 15 short years. Throughout his time with us, Keith held many titles, including boat driver, coach, and bonfire extraordinaire. However, in this post, we would like to honor him as a leader.
Keith’s greatest passion was driving and coaching skiers as they learned new tricks. Together with his wife, Bridget Berger, he created our first junior team, demonstrating his unmatched dedication to helping each individual grow, both on and off the water.
As an incredible boat driver, Keith was entrusted with pulling any and all high-speed and precision acts. He had aspirations to eventually become the lead driver of our team and someday drive for Team USA. We have no doubt that he would have accomplished these goals, given his exceptional skills and unwavering determination.
Keith’s contributions went beyond site renovations, boat detailing, and driving for our shows and practices. He was an integral part of our Backwater family, bringing us together with a stronger bond than ever. One of his best quotes was, “Some of our best memories and some we have to be reminded of were made beyond the gate of the ski site.” Those who were lucky enough to sit around one of his bonfires or go on a pontoon ride with him know how truly special those memories are.
Outside of the Backwater Gamblers, Keith was a husband, a father, a son, a colleague at John Deere, a Packers fan, and a loyal friend. Some of his hobbies included fixing up motorcycles, working on his boats, spending time with his two children and wife, and cruising the local rivers on his pontoon boat with friends.
Keith was a pillar of the Backwater Gamblers and will be missed dearly. To honor Keith and his legacy, we will hold a memorial show on Sunday, June 9th. We ask that our fans deck out the stands in Green and Gold, John Deere apparel, Packers apparel, or your Backwater apparel. Let’s pack the stands to honor Keith and his family, celebrating the incredible impact he had on all of us.
