Karen Hamilton Obituary, Death – The passing of Karen Lawless Shepard-Hamilton, who resided in Douglasville, Georgia, occurred without any distress on April 2, 2024. at the year 1952, Karen Lawless was born at Fort Clayton, Panama Canal Zone, to Jack and Jayne Lawless, who were members of a military family. Her family relocated to Paris, France, in the middle of the 1950s, and she attended French Parochial School for the first and second grades.
She was referred to as a “Army brat” at this time. She assumed the role of the family translator in the marketplaces while she was still a little child. After she had returned to the United States, she stayed in Manchester, New Hampshire, for a period of time while her father was stationed in Korea. After that, she relocated to the suburb of Ben Hill in Atlanta, which is located in close proximity to her father’s new assignment at Fort McPherson in Atlanta.
She was a member of the Pep Squad when she was a student at Therrell High School. Even before she graduated from high school, she was already enrolled in Clayton State College as a student studying there. After completing her training as a licensed practical nurse at Grady, she went on to work in the emergency room at Douglas General Hospital as well as at Parkway Regional Hospital. As a result of having to undergo repeated hip replacement procedures, the nurse decided to leave the profession because of a congenital hip condition.
Nevertheless, she took the effort to attend West Georgia College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology, despite the aforementioned health problems. From that point on, she continued to pursue her medical education and eventually became a member of the front office staff at the Lawrence Joel Army Health Center located at Fort McPherson. Both her politeness and her organizational abilities served her well throughout her time there, which lasted until she left due to medical reasons in 2004.
