Julian Keel Obituary: The identity of a W.J. Keenan High School student who tragically lost his life in a shooting over the weekend has been disclosed by his parents. Julian “Juju” Keel, a 15-year-old football player at W.J. Keenan, was the victim of this unfortunate incident. In response to this heartbreaking event, Julian’s parents, Adrien and Alec Watson, issued a statement on Monday:
“Julian, affectionally known as “Juju”, was known as a light in our world and in anyone’s world he came across. We are experiencing a pain that no parent should ever have to feel, however, we are rooted in God and our faith will remain in him. Our message to the community is to put the guns down. Our Julian was innocently killed. He was a kid that always did the right thing and led by example. Julian was proud to be a Keenan Raider who was heavily involved in sports. He played football, ran track and wrestled. We will continue to honor our beloved son and lead by the example of love he led by every day.”
Authorities from the Columbia Police Department (CPD) have reported that the shooting occurred at a party on Colonial Life Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. Deputy Chief Kelly mentioned that the individuals present at the scene were notably young.
Additionally, Richland County School District One released a statement on Monday morning addressing this tragic incident:
