Julian Garcia, Zachary Ward Obituary – The two officers involved in the fatal collision on South Union Avenue have been identified by the Bakersfield Police Department as Officer Julian Garcia and Officer Zachary Ward. Both officers, who have been serving with the department for approximately two years, are currently on administrative leave.
The incident occurred on June 17, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m. when a BPD vehicle with two officers was en route to a service call in the downtown area. While traveling northbound in the 1500 block of South Union Avenue, the vehicle struck an individual on the road, resulting in serious injuries. Medical assistance was requested at the scene, where the male victim was pronounced deceased.
