Julian Brown Obituary – The identity of the Horry County police officer involved in a fatal crash on the beach last week has been disclosed by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. LCpl. Lena Butler has confirmed that LCpl. Julian Brown, an officer with the Horry County Police Department (HCPD), was driving an HCPD truck when he collided with Sandra Schultz-Peters, a 66-year-old woman from Myrtle Beach.
According to the SCHP, the incident occurred as the truck was entering the beach from the Nash Street beach access. As the vehicle turned onto the sand, it struck Schultz-Peters.
Records from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy indicate that Brown has been a member of the HCPD since 1988. Throughout his tenure, he has held the position of beach safety director and has been recognized by state legislators for his significant contributions to the junior lifeguard program in Myrtle Beach, which have saved lives. In addition, he was awarded the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal in 2022.
Following the crash, Brown has been placed on administrative leave while the SCHP conducts its investigation.
