Juanita Vidal Obituary – Police have identified the 71-year-old woman who tragically lost her life in a hit-and-run incident in Bushwick on Thursday. The victim, Juanita Vidal, was crossing the street at the intersection of Eldert Street and Knickerbocker Avenue with a 44-year-old woman when they were struck by a 2024 Mazda CX-5. The driver of the Mazda was reportedly evading a traffic stop at the time of the collision, which occurred around 5:02 p.m.
After hitting the two pedestrians, the driver also collided with two parked and unoccupied vehicles before abandoning the car and fleeing north on Eldert Street. Both women sustained severe head and body injuries and were found unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services transported Vidal to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
The 44-year-old woman was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst in critical but stable condition. As of Friday afternoon, the driver responsible for the hit-and-run remains at large, and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made thus far.
