Joyce Brannon Death – The woman who tragically lost her life in a pedestrian accident last week has been identified by the Hastings Police Department. According to Captain Jason Haase, the victim has been identified as Joyce Brannon, a 71-year-old resident of Hastings.
The incident occurred when Brannon was crossing the street on her electric mobility scooter at the intersection of West South Street and South Hastings Avenue on May 29. Despite looking before crossing and being aware of an approaching pickup truck heading eastbound on South Street, Brannon was unable to avoid the collision.
Captain Haase explained that the pickup driver, a 73-year-old individual, was unable to stop the vehicle in time to prevent the accident.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Brannon had previously experienced close calls with her scooter. Police suspect that her age may have played a role in the accident. As a result, no charges or citations are expected to be filed against the pickup driver.
