Jose Regalado Jr., a 30-year-old resident of Fillmore, has been identified as the pedestrian who tragically lost his life on Highway 101 on August 15. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau confirmed Regalado Jr.’s identity on Wednesday.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The fatal accident occurred when Regalado Jr. was attempting to enter a vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of Highway 101, east of Gaviota. According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the situation unfolded when Regalado Jr. was struck by a vehicle while standing on the highway. Bystanders who witnessed the accident immediately sprang into action, performing life-saving measures to assist Regalado Jr.
These efforts included the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), which was deployed in an attempt to revive him. Despite the prompt and valiant efforts of those at the scene, Regalado Jr. was pronounced dead at the location.
Investigation and Response
The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene following the accident. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department has indicated that the circumstances leading up to the tragic event are still under investigation.
