Jon Diego Monreal Obituary, Death; – The preliminary report released by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) provides details about the sequence of events leading up to a fatal small plane crash in Johnson County last month. The crash occurred near Godley, approximately nine miles northwest of the Cleburne Regional Airport, and was reported shortly before 9 p.m. on May 15.
Tragically, the crash claimed the life of an 18-year-old student pilot named Jon Diego Monreal from Crowley, as confirmed by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The incident involved a Cessna 150L aircraft, which crashed in an open pasture around 8:30 p.m. on the same day. It is important to note that there were no passengers on board the flight. According to the NTSB report, a witness and her daughter observed the airplane flying at a lower altitude than usual, appearing to hover and fly slowly before suddenly entering a spiraling nosedive. The aircraft completed several rotations in the descending spiral before disappearing behind a hill.
The witness and her daughter promptly contacted local law enforcement by dialing 911 after noticing smoke and fire emanating from the crash site. The NTSB investigators discovered that the entire cabin and cockpit were destroyed by a post-impact fire, as indicated in the report. Furthermore, the examination of the wreckage did not reveal any signs of mechanical malfunction or failure prior to the crash.
