CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Students and staff with Johnson C. Smith University spent their Friday volunteering at a Habitat for Humanity build.
They were working on a home in the Legacy Vista neighborhood in west Charlotte. It’s where students began framing a new home in the community.
School officials say it was an opportunity for them to give back to the Charlotte area.
“As a student it’s really important to be a part of the community service, as well as balancing serving the school and community,” said JCSU student Tyla Johnson. “It shows as a scholar, you’re dedicated academically, but also who you are as a regular human being.”
Friday’s event was part of the university’s Convocation celebration this week.
