John W Jack,Corrine G Wigand Obituary, death; – Authorities have confirmed the identities of a couple who tragically lost their lives in a collision in the Upper Peninsula.
On Thursday, the Escanaba Department of Public Safety reported that John W. “Jack” and Corrine G. Wigand, both aged 91 and residents of Wetmore, succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident that took place at the intersection of North Lincoln Road and Danforth Road at approximately 1:20 p.m. on January 23.
In addition to the Wigands, four other individuals were injured in the incident and were subsequently transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group with injuries that were not life-threatening.
According to police reports, a Dodge Ram truck towing a snowmobile trailer collided with a Subaru that was attempting to make a westbound turn onto Danforth Road. The Wigands were occupants of the Subaru and were pronounced dead at the scene.
As noted in their obituary, Jack served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1955 and later had a career at Mead Paper Company, retiring as a supervisor in 1991. He had a passion for boating, camping, hunting, and traveling, and was often seen working in his garage or maintaining his road to Dana Lake with his tractor. Corrine was employed as a bookkeeper at Heynssens-Selin’s until her retirement in 1995. Her interests included knitting, cooking, baking, reading, and blueberry picking.
The obituary highlighted her adventurous spirit, noting, “She enjoyed snowmobiling and even at the age of 87, was riding a jet ski. Age didn’t stop her from doing anything.” Assistance at the scene was provided by the Michigan State Police, Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Rampart EMS, and Gene’s Towing.
