John Thomas McQuillen Obituary, Death; – A homicide, a suspicious package, and a controlled detonation.
On Wednesday, a Middletown neighborhood was the scene of significant activity surrounding the death of a man. As of the following day, many details remain unclear. We are outlining what is known and the questions that persist.
Who is the deceased?
According to the coroner, the individual is John Thomas McQuillen, aged 65.
What transpired?
Authorities received a call at approximately 7:30 a.m. regarding a shooting and an individual down on Winter Springs Drive in the Swan Pointe area. Upon arrival, police discovered McQuillen lying on the ground and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. During the investigation into his death, law enforcement officials discovered a suspicious package, which prompted a controlled explosion.
Later in the afternoon, around 4 p.m., police sought assistance in locating a box truck believed to have been driven by a person of interest, who may have had an explosive device on board.
The truck was located swiftly; however, the Louisville Metro Police Department did not disclose whether any individuals or items were found in connection with it. Multiple agencies were involved in the response, including the Middletown Police Department, Louisville Metro Police Department, a bomb squad, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Have any arrests been made?
Currently, law enforcement has informed WLKY that they have identified a person of interest and stated that “there is no threat to the public.” However, they have not confirmed whether the suspect in the shooting is in custody.
