John Schultz Suicide, The Chattanooga-hamilton County Air Pollution Control Board Investigator Shot Himself; John Michael Schultz, age 63, of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. Born on October 12, 1960, in Grand Haven, MI, to Albert and Margaret (Kresnak) Schultz, John spent his entire life dedicated to his family and his craft.
After graduating from Grand Haven High School, John joined the family business, “Downtown Automotive,” working as a mechanic alongside two of his brothers for over 40 years. Known as the “Schultz Brothers,” they built a reputation for hard work and reliability. John’s love for working on cars was evident to everyone who knew him. He was often found having lunch with his friends and brothers or chatting with customers at the shop.
John was a devoted father and grandfather, especially cherishing time spent with family during the holidays. He loved roasting s’mores and playing family games, creating countless cherished memories. His customers appreciated and trusted him, valuing his dedication and expertise.
One of John’s favorite pastimes was his red Jimmy, which he enjoyed racing at the sand drags in Silver Lake and climbing the dunes. This hobby brought him immense joy and a sense of adventure.
John is deeply loved and remembered by his two daughters, Stephanie Schultz (husband Mehdi Imougay) and Christina Schultz (husband Jeremy Scharphorn); his son, James Schultz; and four grandchildren: Kadyn Schultz, Ethan and Emerson Helsel, and Aya Imougay. He is also survived by his five sisters: Virginia Machin, Edna (George) Frederick, Loretta (Mike) Larner, Jane (DeWayne) Juhnke, and Mary Schultz; and three brothers: Bill Schultz, Jerome (Beverly) Schultz, and Mike (Michelle) Schultz; as well as many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Schultz, and his sister-in-law Mary Schultz. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
