John Mitch Barnett Obituary-Death News; Boeing Whistleblower, John Mitch Barnett Passes Away
After many days of depositions in South Carolina, the former manager of Boeing, who had voiced safety concerns about the aircraft company, was found dead. On Friday, police reported that their investigation was over.
The victim had killed themselves. The 62-year-old John Barnett’s body was found in Louisiana on March 9. The authorities had declared earlier in the day that he had self-inflicted his injuries.
Barnett held the role of quality-control manager at Boeing for a considerable period of time before he retired in 2017. After that, throughout the next few years, he expressed his concerns to the media. According to Barnett, there were metal shavings lying around near the wiring for the flight controls.
These shavings could have severed the circuitry and caused a disaster. Furthermore, he stated that problems were present in as many as 25% of the oxygen systems on Boeing’s 787 aircraft.
It became clear from the data and documents examined during the investigation that Mr. Barnett had long-standing mental health issues. According to a police statement, these challenges had gotten worse in relation to the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding his whistleblower case.
Barnett was in Charleston, South Carolina, fielding questions for depositions related to his filed whistleblower lawsuit, and a hearing was scheduled for June.
In a family statement released soon after his mother’s death, Barnett’s brother Rodney stated, “John had identified some serious defects that he felt were not adequately addressed.” According to Rodney, “John was extremely concerned about the safety of the aircraft and the flying public.”
