John Lewis Obituary, Death – The Montgomery County Memorial Hospital was the last resting place for John Patrick “Pat” Lewis, 73, of Elliott, Iowa, , on Thursday, April 4, 2024. The Lewis family—John Lewis, Jr. and Phyllis (Christensen)—welcomed their son Pat on July 13, 1950. After finishing high school in 1968 at Griswold Community, he returned to Elliott to continue his education.
After stints with D&L in Red Oak, Kaiser Rock Quarry, Oakview Construction, and Kaiser Construction again, he went into business for himself with Pat Lewis Trucking. On June 6, 1968, in Anita, Iowa, Pat and Philomena “Deana” Brownsberger were married. They spent their whole marriage in Elliott, Iowa. Pat had a significant impact on the Elliott and neighboring areas.
His memberships in many organizations include the Elliott Community Club, the Elliott Business and Betterment Association, the Elliott Volunteer Fire Department, where he was Deputy Chief and Secretary, and Griswold Telephone, where he was a board member for 25 years. At the Hillside Cemetery, Pat took the lead in erecting a plastic fence, a feat of which he was justifiably pleased.
His parents, son Denny Lewis, sister LaVonne, and nephew Jeff Harris all passed away before him. Survivors include his wife: Deana Lewis of Elliott; son: Joe Lewis and wife Kim of Red Oak, IA; grandsons: Darrin Lewis of Papillion, NE; Shayne Larson and wife Katie of Stanton, IA; and Jared Larson of Maryville, MO; great grandchildren: Sloane Larson and Pryor Larson; sisters: Sue Harris and husband Bo of Red Oak and Sharon Reynolds of Franklin, KY.
On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 10:30 AM, the funeral will be place at the United Church of Hope in Elliott, Iowa. Resting place will be at Elliott, Iowa’s Hillside Cemetery. On Monday, April 8, 2024, from 5-7 PM, friends and family are invited to the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel, 1995 G Ave., Red Oak, Iowa, to pay their respects. A donation in honor of Dennis Lewis should be sent to the Scholarship Fund.
