CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A popular hot dog restaurant that’s been in the Dilworth neighborhood for close to 13 years is closing its doors.
JJ’s Red Hots, located at 1514 East Boulevard, announced that Sunday, March 16, 2025, will be their last day. “We just couldn’t shred enough cheddar to keep it going,” they said.
Our mission statement – create joy – is intentially simple and self-explanatory. We were forunate enough to be able to do it for almost 13 years. 12 years, 8 months, and 12 days, in fact.
111,264 hours. 3 million hot dogs, half a million sausages and a few hectares of free-range chicken. 387,000 pounds of potatoes and 125 metric tons of onions. 837 origional recipes. 663 ‘Dogs of the Week.’ At least 1,000 employees and over 1.5 million guests served. And don’t get me started on our chili and slaw. We filled an ocean.
Thanks to all of you who relished the wacky idea of a hog dog and sausage concept in Charlotte, NC, and who continued to support us through the COVID debacle, store openings and closings, and the like. We will especially miss our weekly regulars and superfans, without whom we would have never made it past the first few months.
You’ve trusted us to employ your children, host your birthday parties, sponsor your golf tournaments, feed your colleagues, and extended families and tolerate your drunk uncles. If that ain’t family, I’m not sure what is.
Each of those moments were so important to us. And moments become memories. They become more glorious, and they will live forever in our hearts and souls. Thank you for creating them with us.
