Jill Waters Obituary, Death; – Authorities are searching for a driver who fled the scene after fatally striking a woman in South Jersey.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on Friday along Route 130, just past North Park Drive in Pennsauken. According to investigators, 46-year-old Jill Waters lost her life in the accident.
“It seems that the vehicle ran over her,” stated Captain Michael Killion. “We are still trying to determine why she was in that area of the roadway in the first place.” Police have indicated that the weather conditions on Friday night are complicating the investigation. “At that hour, it was becoming dark, and the weather was quite gloomy with rain,” Killion noted.
At the time of the incident, authorities believe Waters was attempting to cross the highway. “We frequently observe pedestrian traffic, and often individuals do not utilize the crosswalk. They tend to jump the barrier as it provides a quicker route to their destination,” Killion explained.
Witnesses reportedly halted traffic and attempted to assist Waters after the collision. Emergency personnel transported her to the hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries. In the meantime, police are on the lookout for a dark-colored SUV that sped away from the scene. Residents who frequently drive along Route 130 have expressed concerns about pedestrians attempting to cross the highway, fearing that an incident like this could occur.
Authorities are seeking surveillance footage, but the rainy and dark conditions at the time have made this challenging. Investigators are urging the driver to come forward.
