Jennifer Russell Obituary, Death; – One of the individuals charged with drag racing in 2023, which resulted in the fatal crash of a Waterloo woman, has admitted guilt.
Kesean Ford and Elijah Seals were alleged to have been racing side-by-side at high speeds along East Court Street near City High on May 27, 2023, when they collided with the vehicle driven by 22-year-old Jennifer Russell, leading to her death.
Ford faced initial charges of three counts of vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter. Initially, he had pleaded not guilty, with his trial scheduled to commence on Tuesday. On that day, Kesean Ford changed his plea to guilty for one count of Homicide by Vehicle – Excessive Speed.
Elijah Seals entered an Alford plea in October, which does not constitute an admission of guilt but recognizes that the prosecution possesses sufficient evidence for a conviction. He received a sentence of three years of probation as part of a ten-year suspended sentence. A sentencing hearing for Ford is scheduled for May 19.
