Javonta McDonald Obituary, – The Birmingham Police Department has identified the man who was killed in a shooting on Interstate 59 in eastern Birmingham last Saturday as 25-year-old Javonta McDonald, according to BPD Officer Truman Fitzgerald. Another adult male was injured in the incident. At around 10 p.m., officers were called to the scene of a shooting on I-59 southbound near the First Ave.
North exit. Upon arrival, they found a pink Dodge Challenger off the road with two adult males inside, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced McDonald dead at the scene, while the other victim was taken to UAB Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Media reports indicated that a section of Roebuck Parkway was closed during the investigation.
Officer Fitzgerald stated that the shooting appeared to be targeted and not random, with an unknown suspect firing shots into the victim’s vehicle on I-59 South. As of now, no suspect is in custody.
